City of Lincoln | Haymarket Bridge Design
This unique and award winning* project essentially helped kickstart Hamel Creative. The city of Lincoln, Nebraska came to Dimensional Innovations (employer at the time) for initial concepts pertaining to their pedestrian bridge project and we delivered a strong set of design options to help create a regional icon. Ultimately, a bold direction of municipal “branding” was chosen for its flexible scales of engagement. From Google Earth to the evening stroll, people can see and experience Lincoln - along with the state’s rich history, progress and values.
While heavily involved in the pitch and ideation phases during his tenure at DI, Fletcher was contracted back as design lead for the development phase of the project. Working with the company ownership and city leadership to generate the content, layout and eventual production artwork for the interpretive graphic panels along interior of the Haymarket Bridge. Hats off to the talented team of designers, engineers and fabricators at Dimensional Innovations on the beautiful execution!
“This project successfully transforms a mundane pedestrian bridge into an actual landmark that effectively communicates on various scales: from the aerial view to ground transportation to the pedestrian level. At nighttime, the illuminated arches and integrated benches create a sense of virtual space that is at the same time open to the elements and visually enclosed—a highly successful example of public placemaking.”
